About This Image
HORNIBROOK BRIDGE 3
Designed by Sir Manuel Hornibrook. Construction of the bridge began in 1932 and was opened to cars, trucks, bicycles and pedestrians in 1935. The two-lane bridge is 2.684kms long and connects Brighton to Clontarf crossing over Bramble Bay. The bridge was closed to motorised traffic in 1979 and left open to pedestrians and bicycles. Before it’s final closure in 2010 the bridge was the longest footbridge in the world. The Hornibrook Bridge was demolished in 2011.
